Lake Whitney

Located roughly 80 miles south of the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex, Lake Whitney has become a popular recreational destination with over two million visitors each year enjoying camping, fishing, boating, water skiing, hunting, sight-seeing, and much more. Named the Official Getaway Capital of the state by the Texas Legislature in 2005, the lake terrain resembles Texas Hill Country with towering cliffs, sandy beaches, protective coves and clear blue water.  More Lake Information

Fishing Report from TPWD (Feb. 1)

GREAT. Water lightly stained; 54 degrees; 6.81 feet below pool. Whitney fishing for striped bass continues to be good to excellent on jigs and live shad fished from Cedron Creek to the river near Plowman Creek. Look for the birds. Largemouth bass are good near the bluffs and in the river near deeper holes with structure. Sand bass catches are being reported in the river near Kimball Bend to Hamm’s creek. Report by Michael Acosta, Unfair Advantage Charters. Striped bass are excellent in 15-20 feet of water on slabs and swimbaits jigged over the schools. Fish are really bunched up right now when you find a school of fish there are a ton of them. Report by James Moore, North Texas Bass Fishing and Cmoore Striper Guide. Striped bass are holding to the same pattern and can be caught deadsticking flukes or slow trolling swim baits and umbrella-rigs along the edges of the river channel and near flats. Fish are scattered so look for flocks of diving birds, fishing from the state park on the south end up towards the McCown flats and all the way to the north end past Steele Creek. Report provided by Kraig Sexton, Sexton's Guide Service LLC, Fishing Charter, Marine Electronics & Whitney. Crappie are roaming in the creek channel suspending close to drop-offs or main lake points using crappie jigs paired with a 1/16 ounce eye hole jig. Report by Robert Stover, Workingman Crappie Guide.
